NORMAN, OK – The documentary film, “Anatomy of a Fraud” will air throughout Oklahoma on Wednesday, April 6 at 8:30 p.m. and again Saturday April 9, at 6:30 p.m. on the OETA network. The film, narrated by Oklahoma native and “CSI: Miami” regular Rex Linn, centers on father and son Bill Hickman Sr. and Bill Hickman Jr. The pair sold insurance and securities in the Shawnee and Meeker area, ultimately bilking at least 160 Oklahomans out of $8.7 million. Many lost their entire life savings. Both men have been sentenced to prison.

“Our goal was to produce an entertaining program with an investor educational-based ending that would not seem like a telecourse,” said Irving Faught, administrator for the Oklahoma Securities Commission. “We think we have produced a captivating program that will also help people better understand the risks they face when investing.”

Chris Turner, director of the film project, added, “We were able to incorporate several victims of the Hickman case in the film, including a 97-year-old- woman who lost $160,000 in a Ponzi scheme orchestrated by the Hickman's.”

The documentary is part of a multimedia financial education project, WISE (Winning through Investment Strategies Education), a partnership between the University of Oklahoma OUTREACH and the Oklahoma Securities Commission. Programs include a summer institute for high school teachers, investment camps for youth and adults, workshops for adults nearing retirement and two large-scale radio campaigns.
